In 2006, whilst studying for a degree in Psychology at the University of Plymouth I started working part time during the holidays as a Food and Beverage Assistant at Wycombe Heights.
After graduating in 2008, I began to build a career in mental health working firstly at a school for children with severe behavioural difficulties and then for the NHS as an Assistant Team Therapist for adults with personality disorders. These roles gave me an amazing understanding and appreciation for working with people and the difficulties that some people face. In 2011, I took 3 months off to go travelling through Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, a time that I will never forget and one which opened my eyes to some amazing cultures. Later that year, I went back to University to gain an MSc in Psychiatric Research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, where after a year of incredibly hard work I gained a Distinction; a grade which I am extremely proud of.
During this time I continued working at Wycombe Heights, gradually picking up different skills across the centre from running functions, to working in the Pro Shop and aiding the sales department. In 2012, after completing my Masters I took up the role of Administrator. Originally, this was meant to be a temporary position whilst looking for another role within mental health. However, as my role grew from Administrator to Accounts and Membership Manager where I was very much involved in the running of the centre, I realised that management was where my passion and career now lie.
I am lucky enough to have been accepted onto the Manager in Training programme for BGL and am now excited to work across all sites, and to learn from some fantastic General Managers. I have always enjoyed working for BGL, and within a busy golf centre, so cannot wait to see what the future brings.
